What is a Search engine? Importance of Search Engine

99graphicsdesign

A search engine is a software designed to retrieve specific information. Most of us are aware of the internet, which is a web search that locates info on the internet (also called the “world wide web”) based on a user’s inquiry, generally a set of words. Also this is very important for people.

Thanks in part to the Google Chrome browser’s integration of search engine capabilities into the web address bar, many people today believe that internet browsers and search-engines are synonymous. However, search engines are web applications created specifically for information retrieval. They are separate technology, yet they are easily accessed via a browser.

4 Types Of Search Engines
  1. Mainstream. Search engines that are widely used, like Google, Yahoo, and Bing! are all supported by internet advertising and are all free to use.
  2. Private search engines. More popular recently as a result of worries about privacy caused by the methods used by major search engines to obtain data.
  3. Vertical. Vertical search, also known as specialized search, allows you to focus your search on a single topic area rather than the entire web.
  4. Computational. A computational search engine that specializes in providing answers to questions about math and science is WolframAlpha.
Popular search engines

Google: There is only one search engine that is so well-known that it has become a verb that means “to search.”
Google is by far the biggest and most well-known in the world, with 92.24 percent of the worldwide search engine market share. In the 1990s, Google won users’ trust with its uncluttered design and backlink-based ranking system. Since then, it has maintained its dominance with nearly constant innovation and a slew of exclusive deals with device manufacturers, wireless carriers, and browser developers that send about 60% of internet searches directly to Google.

Bing: Bing, owned by Microsoft, is currently the second-largest search engine in the world with a 2.29 percent market share. Since its launch in 2009, Bing featured photography on its homepage, a stark contrast to Google’s austere landing page.

Yahoo: Yahoo!’s combination web portal, news site, and search engine make up 1.52 percent of the search engine market share. Yahoo! has developed since its early days as “Jerry and David’s Guide to the World Wide Web! Sold by Verizon in 2017 for $4.48 billion.

Baidu: Chinese search engine Baidu holds 1.48 percent of the market for search engines globally. Similar to Google, Baidu is now among the biggest digital companies in China.

DuckDuckGo: DuckDuckGo is a private and also ad-supported search engine, that currently holds 0.58 percent of the global market share.

Neeva declared that it would launch the first private subscription without ads in 2020.
